The panel of judges has acquitted three defendants in cases of alleged obstruction of investigations in three corruption cases. How will the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) respond to the ruling?

The Director of Prosecution (Dirtut) at Jampidsus, the AGO’s prosecution arm, Riono Budisantoso, said they had not yet determined any further legal remedies against the court’s decision, and that they were still studying the matter.

‘We will look at it, study it to determine what legal avenues are available,’ Riono told reporters on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.

When asked about the possibility of filing a cassation, Riono could not be sure. However, he said there remains a possibility to appeal.

‘The possibility of cassation remains very open. We will continue to strive to uphold justice wherever possible,’ he added.

The three defendants are Junaedi Saibih, an advocate; Adhiya Muzzaki, a ‘buzzer’; and JakTV director Tian Bahtiar. They were charged by prosecutors with sentences of eight and ten years in prison.

Prosecutors maintain that they engaged in obstructing investigations in the three corruption cases. The cases include corruption in the governance of tin commodity pricing, corruption in sugar imports at the Ministry of Trade, and corruption in the processing of export licenses for crude palm oil (CPO) or cooking oil.

The prosecutors said the trio actively and deliberately carried out non-judicial schemes outside court to cultivate a negative opinion implying that the handling of the cases by the AGO in those three matters was not correct.

The verdict hearing for the trio was held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday, 3 March. The panel acquitted the defendants.
