Attorney General's Office Examines Karo District Prosecutor's Office in North Sumatra Over Amsal Sitepu Case
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has examined the personnel of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office in North Sumatra, clarifying and scrutinising them in the aftermath of the handling of videographer Amsal Sitepu’s case, which has sparked controversy.
Head of Public Relations and Advocacy at Kejagung, Anang Supriatna, stated that the prosecutors, starting from Karo District Prosecutor Danke Rajagukguk, the Head of the Special Crimes Section, to the public prosecutors, have been secured for the examination.
“On Saturday night (4/4), they were indeed secured by the Attorney General’s intelligence team,” Anang said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday (5/4).
According to him, the Kejagung team will check the case handling carried out by the Karo prosecutors, including issues of professionalism in managing the case.
He assured that the Attorney General’s Office will announce the results of the examination. According to him, the Kejagung team will prioritise caution and uphold the principle of presumption of innocence.
“If violations are proven later, there will be internal sanctions; we just wait for the results,” he said.
Previously, Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) requested the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision or the Attorney General’s Supervision Agency to comprehensively evaluate the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office personnel handling Amsal Christy Sitepu’s case.
“And to submit a written report on the evaluation results to Commission III of DPR RI within one month,” said Chairman of Commission III DPR RI, Habiburokhman, who read out the meeting conclusions with the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office and Amsal Sitepu at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday (2/4).
