Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Attorney General’s Office has once again designated Muhammad Riza Chalid (MRC) as a suspect in an alleged criminal corruption case. In a press conference at the Attorney General’s Office headquarters in South Jakarta on Thursday (9/4/2026), the Attorney General’s Office announced MRC as a suspect in the alleged criminal corruption case concerning the procurement of crude oil and refined products at PT Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral) for the period 2008-2015.

Previously, MRC was designated as a suspect in an alleged criminal corruption case regarding the governance of crude oil and refined products at PT Pertamina (Persero) for the period 2018-2023. He played the role of beneficial owner of PT Navigator Khatulistiwa and PT Orbit Terminal Merak, with total alleged state losses reaching Rp285 trillion. However, to date, Riza Chalid has not been examined by the Attorney General’s Office.

“Regarding MRC, he is indeed a DPO (Most Wanted List) and a Red Notice has been issued. For that reason, we continue to cooperate with Interpol, particularly Interpol Indonesia, to try to bring Mr. MRC here. Efforts are ongoing. Thus, MRC, in addition to being a suspect in the previous case, also holds suspect status in this case,” said Director of Investigation of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi.

Regarding the timeline, Syarief revealed that the Attorney General’s Office is striving to bring MRC in as quickly as possible. However, there are obstacles because the individual is abroad.

“But since this involves the jurisdiction of another country, outside Indonesia’s jurisdiction, it seems we will need time. But we have undertaken all the best efforts, all the best efforts have been made. We also hope to soon bring Mr. MRC, the suspect, to Indonesia,” Syarief explained.
