Attorney General's Office Designates Riza Chalid as Suspect in Petral Corruption Case
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has once again designated oil boss Mohammad Riza Chalid as a suspect in the corruption case concerning the procurement of crude oil by Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral). Director of Investigation for the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes at the AGO, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that in addition to Riza Chalid, a total of six other individuals have also been named as suspects. “We have designated seven suspects in the case of crude oil and refinery product procurement at Petral from 2008 to 2015,” he said during a press conference on Thursday (9/4). In this case, the AGO claims to have found leaks of internal information from PT Petral regarding the needs for crude oil products. “The investigation team found facts of actions involving leaks of Petral’s internal secret information related to the needs for crude oil and gasoline,” he explained. Previously, the AGO was investigating the alleged corruption in the governance of crude oil and finished refinery products at Pertamina Energy Trading Limited or Petral. The status of this case was elevated to the investigation stage in October 2023. In this case, former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said has also been examined by the AGO twice.
