Attorney General Considers Cassation Appeal After Court Acquits Delpedro and Others
The Attorney General’s Office has opened the possibility of pursuing a cassation appeal after a panel of judges acquitted Delpedro Marhaen Rismansyah, Executive Director of Lokataru Foundation, along with three other defendants in a case involving alleged incitement related to demonstrations that descended into rioting in August 2025.
Anang Supriatna, Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Centre, stated that prosecutors are currently reviewing all facts revealed during trial proceedings before determining their next legal steps.
“Clearly, the individuals in question have been acquitted. However, the case was processed under the old Criminal Code of Procedure,” said Anang in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
According to Anang, prosecutors still have time to thoroughly examine the case materials before deciding whether to file a cassation appeal.
“We will await the prosecutor’s stance within the prescribed timeframe according to regulations. We will see what position prosecutors take in the near future,” Anang stated.
Nevertheless, the Attorney General’s Office emphasised that it respects the verdict handed down by the panel of judges against Delpedro and his associates.
The Jakarta Central District Court had previously delivered a surprising ruling in the case involving Lokataru Foundation Director Delpedro Marhaen and three other activists related to the August 2025 demonstrations that resulted in rioting.
The panel of judges decided to acquit all defendants of the charges brought by prosecutors. The verdict was read during a hearing held on Friday, 6 March 2026. The defendants were found not to have committed the acts as alleged by the prosecution.
“We acquit the defendants from the charges brought by the Public Prosecutor,” said panel chair Judge Harika Nova Yeri.
