Attorney General Appeals Verdicts in Nine-Defendant Crude Oil Corruption Case

Jakarta – The Attorney General has filed an appeal against verdicts rendered by the Corruption Court panel at the Central Jakarta District Court against nine defendants in an alleged corruption case involving crude oil and refinery product governance for the 2018–2023 period.

“We appreciate and respect the Corruption Court’s decision in this case and the guilty findings. However, on Friday (27/2), the public prosecutors have filed an appeal,” said Anang Supriatna, Head of the Attorney General’s Law Information Centre, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Saturday.

However, he could not yet disclose the reasons for the appeal. “The grounds for appeal will be laid out in the appeal memorandum,” he said.

During hearings held from Thursday (26/2) evening around 4.00 pm until Friday (27/2) early morning around 4.00 am, the judge panel sentenced nine defendants in the crude oil and refinery product governance corruption case covering 2018–2023.

In the first cluster hearing that began on Thursday (26/2) around 4.00 pm, verdicts were announced for Riva Siahaan, General Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga in 2023; Maya Kusuma, Director of Central Marketing and Trading at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga in 2023; and Edward Corne, Vice President of Product Trading at Pertamina Patra Niaga for 2023–2025.

In the second cluster hearing that began on Thursday (26/2) around 9.00 pm, verdicts were read against Yoki Firnandi, General Director of PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) for 2022–2024; Agus Purwono, Vice President of Feedstock Management at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) for 2023–2024; and Sani Dinar Saifudin, Director of Feedstock and Product Optimisation at PT KPI for 2022–2025.

Yoki and Sani were each sentenced to 9 years imprisonment, whilst Agus received 10 years. All three were also fined 1 billion rupiah each, with an alternative of 190 days imprisonment.

In the third cluster, the verdict hearing began on Friday around 2.00 am against the beneficial owner of PT Navigator Khatulistiwa Muhammad Kerry Andrianto Riza, Commissioner of PT Pelayaran Mahameru Kencana Abadi (PMKA) Gading Ramadhan Juedo, and Commissioner of PT Jenggala Maritim Nusantara (JMN) Dimas Werhaspati.

Kerry was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, whilst Gading and Dimas each received 14 years. All three were also fined 1 billion rupiah each, with an alternative of 190 days imprisonment.

For Kerry alone, an additional sentence was imposed requiring payment of 2.9 trillion rupiah in restitution, with an alternative of 5 years imprisonment.
