Attending Mapolda DIY Groundbreaking, Sultan HB X: Strategic Kick-Off Momentum
The Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, emphasised that the construction of Mapolda DIY represents a strategic momentum to strengthen conventional security. At the same time, it develops an adaptive modern security system in the digital era.
The Sultan conveyed this during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Mapolda DIY in Godean, Sleman, on Sunday (3/5/2026). In his speech, he assessed that this construction is not merely a physical project, but rather the starting point for transforming a more responsive security system to the changes of the times.
“The groundbreaking of Mapolda DIY also serves as a strategic kick-off momentum. Conventional security becomes increasingly solid as a pillar of order, while modern security grows flexibly and vigilantly,” said the Sultan.
The Sultan highlighted that the landscape of threats is now increasingly complex. Not only in the form of physical disturbances, but also evolving into the realm of cybercrime, disinformation, and declining public trust.
“Threats no longer always appear as physical disturbances, but rather manifest in the form of cybercrime, disinformation, and the erosion of public trust,” he stated.
He stressed the importance of a security system capable of responding quickly, accurately, and upholding integrity. According to him, the future Mapolda DIY must become a centre for developing systems as well as strengthening the human resources of the Indonesian National Police.
“This building is designed not merely as a workspace, but as an architecture of future civilisation,” he said.
The Sultan also reminded that police modernisation must not abandon basic humanitarian values. Police, he said, must be able to balance technological sophistication with social sensitivity.
“The police of the future are those who can read data with technology, while also reading feelings with the sensitivity of conscience,” he stated.
Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who also led the laying of the first stone, stated that the construction of Mapolda DIY adopts the Presisi concept combined with the local value of Memayu Hayuning Bawana.
“This is a mandate on how we maintain, improve, and create harmony in society, in line with the values of Tri Brata and Catur Prasetya,” he explained.
According to Sigit, the new building will also adopt a smart city concept supported by digital technologies such as data-driven policing, social listening, and strengthening cyber security.
“With AI and data integration, we can perform early detection and take precise steps according to the needs of the community,” said Sigit.
He added that construction will begin in the 2026 fiscal year and will be carried out in stages until all facilities can be optimally operationalised.
“We start in 2026. Later, we will see whether it can be completed in one year or in stages. Clearly, the move from the old building to the new one will be done gradually,” he concluded.
