Attempt to Approach the Strait of Hormuz, USS Abraham Lincoln Flees After Being Struck by Iranian Drones
Tehran-based Iran’s state television, cited by Al Mayadeen on Thursday 5 March 2026, reported that their drones struck the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Not only the carrier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also targeted four destroyers last Monday.
Following the attack, the USS Abraham Lincoln was reported to move away from its previous position and shift southeast into the Indian Ocean. According to a spokesman for KHATAM al-Anbiya Central Command, the USS Abraham Lincoln was struck by Iranian drones as it approached about 340 kilometres from Iranian waters and was said to be an American attempt to control the Strait of Hormuz.
The spokesman said the USS Abraham Lincoln quickly retreated from the Strait of Hormuz area after being hit by drones, escorted by destroyers. The IRGC claimed the USS Abraham Lincoln had retreated as far as 1,000 kilometres.
Earlier on Sunday, the IRGC said they attacked the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf. This retaliation after US and Israel strikes killed the country’s top leader.
“The carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was attacked by four ballistic missiles,” the IRGC said in a statement carried by local media. The IRGC warned that “land and sea will increasingly become a graveyard for the aggressor terrorists.”
