At Reskrim Working Meeting, Police Chief Urges Investigators to Adapt to New Crime Methods

Sigit then explained that strengthening human resources is the main key for Polri to face global situations that impact domestic conditions. This includes anticipating the emergence of new legal gaps as well as the development of transnational crime that continues to use new modi operandi. “Of course, synergy and collaboration among all ministry and agency institutions is very important. So that what is the hope of the President on how we can realise a sense of justice for society,” he said. In addition to the professionalism of investigators, the former Polri Criminal Investigation Chief also gave special instructions to the Reskrim ranks to improve the quality of public services. One that was emphasised is providing extra legal protection for vulnerable groups. “Also carrying out firm and thorough law enforcement against perpetrators of crimes that endanger the state, endanger society, and of course how we continue to improve services to the public, especially vulnerable groups,” Sigit stressed. “On one side, how we continue to follow the development of transnational crimes that certainly continue to evolve to find loopholes to carry out new crime modi operandi,” he continued. However, on the other side, Polri must remain an institution that provides a sense of security and justice for those who need special legal services. Adjustment to the New Criminal Code Paradigm In the same opportunity, General Sigit also reminded his ranks regarding the implementation of the new Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. He asked all Reskrim members to understand the legal paradigm changes so that they can be implemented properly in the field. “Our hope is that we can work together with all law enforcement officials to provide new hope related to the new Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code paradigms, which of course provide much room for restorative justice at all levels,” he explained. He emphasised that justice now is not just attributive, but must prioritise the restoration of justice for all parties. Therefore, legal literacy to the public must also be strengthened. “This shows our commitment to unite in implementing law enforcement that is a special concern of the government, and also provides a sense of security and justice for the public who need legal services,” Sigit concluded. Also attending the event were a number of ministers and agency heads, including Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) Nugroho Sulistyo Budi, Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Suyudi Ario Seto, to Deputy Attorney General for General Criminal Affairs (Jampidum) Asep Nana Mulyana.
