At Iftar Gathering, National Police Chief: The Voice of the Media is the Voice of the Public That Must Be Heard
The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, held an iftar gathering with media representatives. General Sigit conveyed the importance of the role of the mass media as a strategic partner of the National Police institution in maintaining national security stability.
General Sigit said that the media is not just a provider of information, but a representation of the voice of the community that must be heard and responded to by the police.
“We realise that the voice of the media is the voice of the public that must be heard. It is our duty as the National Police institution to carry out the mandate as called for by the voices of the public represented by our media colleagues,” he said at the Main Building of the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
General Sigit then gave a firm instruction to all his ranks not to ignore media reports, no matter how small. He said that reports that appear in the media are often a cry or aspiration of the community that needs to be resolved.
“Please, all ranks, that no matter how small the voice from our media friends, it is a cry from the community, a complaint from the community. We must take quick steps, a quick response to respond,” he said.
He hopes that the synergy between the media and the National Police will continue to be maintained. The goal is to ensure that the police’s response in the field is not based on its own desires, but on the real needs of the community.
“So that in the future, our response is not a response because of our own desires, but our response is truly a response in the field which then moves because we listen to the voice of the public voiced by our media colleagues,” said Sigit.
On that occasion, General Sigit also conveyed an open apology if there were any actions by members of the National Police that hurt the public’s sense of justice, whether realised or not.
“Then, on this occasion, of course, I would like to apologise if in our daily lives there may be actions by our members that, whether realised or not, hurt the public’s sense of justice. Therefore, in this case, we apologise,” said the National Police Chief.
He promised to take firm action against members who hurt the public’s sense of justice, especially those who commit violations. Firm action is said to be taken to maintain the institution of the Bhayangkara Corps.
“And this is a form of our commitment, the commitment of the institution to the public, to the community, and to the press,” said General Sigit.
