Astra wins first slot in 10 top firms
JAKARTA (JP): The Hong Kong-based Far Eastern Economic Review
yesterday presented awards here to Indonesia's 10 top companies,
which have been assessed according to its annual leadership
survey, called Review 200.
"They were selected by top business executives in the region
for their leadership qualities and are key companies to watch
this year," Gordon Crovitz, the magazine's editor and publisher,
said at yesterday's awards presentation ceremony.
PT Astra International leads the top ten of companies this
year, while international telecommunication giant PT Indosat,
which ranked first last year, drops for the first time to the
second spot, followed by an Astra subsidiary, PT Toyota Astra
Motor in third place.
Copper and gold mining company PT Freeport Indonesia retains
the fourth position it held last year, followed by property
developer PT Ciputra Development, which was not on the list last
year.
"It is a surprise to us, and it motivates us to compete not
only locally but also globally," Ciputra, chairman and founder of
Ciputra Development, told journalists after the presentation of
awards.
The sixth position was held by PT Indofood Sukses Makmur,
followed by PT Bank Niaga, PT Gudang Garam, PT Bank Central Asia
and PT Bank Bali.
The Review 200 is an annual survey conducted by SRS Singapore
for the Review. It ranks 530 companies in Asia on a number of
leadership qualities including services and products, innovation,
vision and financial soundness.
More than 4,000 executives participated in the survey. They
were readers of the Review and its five affiliated local business
magazines in Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan,
Thailand, Australia, India, Indonesia and South Korea. (rid)
