Astra Group's Sales Report: Gran Max and Veloz Hybrid as Key Performers
JAKARTA - Competition in the national automotive industry intensified at the start of 2026. Amid the aggressiveness of competing brands and faster market growth, the Astra Group is relying on two main models to maintain its sales performance: the Daihatsu Gran Max and the Toyota Veloz Hybrid.
Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), Astra’s vehicle sales from January to April 2026 reached 143,365 units. This figure grew by around 4 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Head of Corporate Communications at Astra, Windy Riswantyo, stated that commercial vehicles and hybrid models were the main pillars of Astra’s sales in the early part of the year.
“The growth in Astra vehicle sales for the period January to April 2026 was supported by an increase in sales in the commercial vehicle segment, particularly from our flagship model, the Daihatsu Gran Max,” Windy said in her statement on Monday (11/5/2026).
However, besides commercial vehicles, Astra is also beginning to rely on electrified models to maintain growth momentum amid shifting consumer preferences.
“In addition, the Toyota Veloz Hybrid, launched at the end of last year and with deliveries to consumers starting in February 2026, has also contributed to sales growth,” she added.
The Gran Max remains one of Astra’s backbones in the light commercial vehicle segment. The model is widely used by businesses for goods distribution and daily operational needs.
On the other hand, the introduction of the Veloz Hybrid demonstrates Astra’s efforts to follow market trends shifting towards electrified vehicles.
Previously, Auto2000 reported that the number of vehicle order letters (SPK) for the Veloz Hybrid had exceeded 3,400 units by the end of April 2026, while retail sales had surpassed 2,000 units.
This trend shift is evident from the growing consumer interest in hybrid cars and vehicles with more complete features. Meanwhile, the low-cost green car (LCGC) market has experienced a decline.
From January to April 2026, national LCGC sales totalled 37,823 units, down from 49,068 units in the same period last year.
Although still dominating the national market with a 49 per cent share, Astra’s dominance is beginning to face pressure from several competing brands, particularly those from China.
One of the most notable is BYD and Denza, with combined sales reaching 19,247 units during the first four months of 2026.
Additionally, Mitsubishi recorded sales of 35,367 units and Suzuki 24,154 units in the same period.
