Assistance for Timorese villages

DILI, East Timor: As many as 288 out of 312 villages in the
province have received government aid provided under the Fund for
Underdeveloped Villages.

Head of the East Timor chapter of the Directorate of Villages
Development Soedardjo said yesterday the 288 villages received Rp
6.2 billion (US$2.8 million), the Antara news agency reported.

He also said that the development of the remaining villages
would be financed with money from the local government's regular
