Assembled PC Market Slumps Amid Declining CPU Sales Trend
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The assembled personal computer (PC) market is showing a downward trend, in line with the increasing prices of components in recent times. Citing Gizmochina on Tuesday (31/3) local time, the latest data from German retailer Mindfactory for the 13th week of 2026 records Central Processing Unit (CPU) sales at the lowest point in history. The rise in prices of components such as CPUs, GPUs, RAM, and storage memory is said to be the main factor causing consumers to postpone buying or upgrading their PCs. This situation is prompting many users to be more cautious and choose to wait for prices to stabilise again. Amid the sluggish CPU sales, AMD still dominates with a share of around 89 per cent, far surpassing Intel which only records slightly above 10 per cent. Consumer demand remains strong for older-generation CPUs that are more affordable, such as AMD’s Ryzen line which is still compatible with DDR4 memory. The combination of lower prices and adequate performance makes these products still sought after compared to the latest platforms that require DDR5 technology. Overall, this trend shows that interest in assembled PCs has not completely disappeared, but consumers are now more selective in purchasing components. The future development of the assembled PC market is expected to depend heavily on the decline in component prices in the global market.
