Assault at East Jakarta Petrol Station: Perpetrator Claims Vehicle Belongs to General
Jakarta (ANTARA) — A man suspected of being a member of the security apparatus allegedly claimed that the vehicle he was driving belonged to a general, in connection with a suspected assault on fuel station operators during a refuelling process at Petrol Station (SPBU) Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta.
“He said, ‘Do you know whose barcode this is? This is a general’s barcode. Don’t you know this is a general’s barcode?’ He kept repeating that,” said Lukman Hakim (19), one of the petrol station operators who fell victim to the assault, in East Jakarta on Monday.
According to Lukman, suspicions that the man was a member of the security forces arose from his own statements, as he repeatedly invoked high-ranking police titles.
The remarks were made during an argument over a barcode discrepancy for a Pertalite fuel purchase.
Lukman said he was both shocked and frightened when the customer repeatedly cited the identity of a senior police official.
The statements, he said, caused tensions to escalate at the scene and led staff to exercise extreme caution.
“We started thinking — what if he really is an officer or is carrying a firearm? So we didn’t dare resist,” Lukman said.
In a video recording that has since circulated online, the word “Kapolda” (Regional Police Chief) can be clearly heard as the man berated staff.
Another SPBU employee, Mukhlisin (38), confirmed that the perpetrator had referred to the vehicle as “a general’s car.”
“He himself said, ‘This is a general’s car.’ In the video, you can also hear the word ‘Kapolda’ when he was shouting,” Mukhlisin said.
During the incident, the perpetrator reportedly seized a bag belonging to one of the operators. However, staff chose not to resist in order to avoid greater risk.
“We were afraid that if we fought back, it would become an even bigger problem. That’s why we chose to simply report it to the police,” Lukman said.
Based on information gathered, only one person alighted from the vehicle. However, a woman and a driver were believed to have remained inside the car.
The petrol station management expressed hope that authorities would thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure there is no abuse of official titles or institutional names to intimidate members of the public.
Report Filed
Contacted separately, the owner of SPBU 3413901, Ernesta, said she had directly reported the assault on her employees to Pulogadung Police Station.
“We have also reported it to Pulogadung Police Station, which is across from the petrol station. And my employees who were injured have already undergone forensic medical examinations,” Ernesta said.
Previously, three employees of Petrol Station (SPBU) 3413901 in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, were allegedly assaulted by a suspected member of the security forces.
There were three victims in total: one staff member and two operators.
They are Ahmad Khoirul Anam, who has worked for approximately five years as a staff member; Lukmanul Hakim, an operator who had only been working for six months after graduating from vocational school; and Abud Mahmudin, an operator with roughly four years of service.
Khoirul Anam was slapped on the cheek, Lukman was punched on the right side of his jaw, whilst Abud was struck below the eye and on the cheek near his mouth, resulting in a tooth being knocked out.
