Aseptic Paper Carton Waste Management Supports Free Nutritious Meal Programme
LamiPak, together with Frisian Flag Indonesia, inaugurated the Aseptic Paper Carton Packaging Waste Management Programme in Serang Regency, Banten, yesterday, as an effort to promote responsible post-consumption packaging management within the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Programme. The launch was attended by Serang Regency Regional Secretary Zaldi Dhuhana, the Ministry of Industry’s Director of Beverage, Tobacco Products, and Refreshing Materials Merrijantij Punguan Pintaria, IPRO Chairman Reza Andreanto, as well as representatives from Serang Regency regional apparatus, industry associations, dairy cooperatives, educational institutions, and the management of PT Lami Packaging (LamiPak) Indonesia and PT Frisian Flag Indonesia.
This programme represents a collaboration between LamiPak Indonesia as a producer of aseptic packaging and Frisian Flag Indonesia as a milk producer utilising that packaging. Through this initiative, both companies seek to take an active role in supporting sustainable post-consumption packaging management. As the MBG Programme distributes milk in aseptic carton packaging to students, a proper collection and management system is required so that post-consumption packaging can be handled responsibly. This programme serves as a concrete step to address that need. A total of 20 schools, spanning elementary to senior high and vocational levels in Cikande District, are participating. Through a school-based approach, students are encouraged to adopt the habit of sorting and collecting post-consumption packaging as part of early environmental education.
PT Lami Packaging Indonesia Managing Director Hongbiao Li stated that collaboration is key to building a sustainable packaging management system. “This programme embodies our commitment to contributing to solutions that not only support the current needs of society but also safeguard environmental sustainability for future generations,” said Hongbiao Li. PT Frisian Flag Indonesia Corporate Affairs Director Andrew Saputro emphasised the importance of multi-stakeholder involvement in raising awareness of post-consumption packaging management. “Through this collaboration, we hope students not only gain nutritional benefits from the MBG Programme but also understand the importance of responsible packaging management as part of a sustainable lifestyle,” said Andrew Saputro.
The Ministry of Industry’s Director of Beverage, Tobacco Products, and Refreshing Materials, Merrijantij Punguan Pintaria, commended the collaborative initiative undertaken by LamiPak and Frisian Flag Indonesia in supporting post-consumption packaging management through an education-based approach. She noted that the programme not only helps build environmental awareness among the younger generation but also serves as a tangible example of applying circular economy principles involving various stakeholders. She welcomed the programme’s implementation as it integrates environmental education with responsible post-consumption packaging management. Through the involvement of schools and students, the programme can cultivate the habit of sorting and collecting waste from an early age, while supporting the development of a circular economy ecosystem in Indonesia. “Collaboration between industry, government, educational institutions, and recycling partners like this is an important step in creating a more sustainable waste management system,” said Merrijantij.
Packaging collected from participating schools will subsequently be managed through collaboration with collection and recycling partners to support material reuse and promote a circular economy. IPRO Chairman Reza Andreanto stressed the importance of building an integrated collection system so that sorted post-consumption packaging can retain its economic value until it enters the recycling chain. “Transportation remains one of the challenges that requires attention. Therefore, infrastructure is needed that can ensure sorted materials maintain their quality until they reach the recycling sector. In addition to education on sorting, the transportation aspect is also a crucial part of building a sustainable system,” said Reza.
In his remarks, Serang Regency Regional Secretary Zaldi Dhuhana expressed his support for the programme. He urged the Serang Regency Education Office to issue a circular encouraging the collection and management of milk packaging waste from the MBG Programme within school environments. This step is expected to strengthen awareness and participation across all educational units in supporting sustainable environmental management. In addition to the programme inauguration ceremony, the event featured nutritional education in conjunction with World Milk Day, a symbolic “Milk Toss” with invited guests, and a demonstration of the aseptic carton packaging collection mechanism to be implemented in participating schools. Through the Aseptic Paper Carton Packaging Waste Management Programme, LamiPak and Frisian Flag Indonesia hope to contribute to building a better waste management culture, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and supporting the creation of a more sustainable future for the next generation.
