SINGAPORE (AFP): Businesses operating in Southeast Asia will
be offered one-stop telecommunication services by an ASEAN
telecoms alliance, according to state-owned Singapore Telecom.
The alliance is a joint venture between Singapore Telecom,
Philippines Long Distance Telephone Co., PT Indosat and Telecom
Malaysia Bhd. The Communications Authority of Thailand and
Jabatan Telecom Brunei will soon join the grouping.
Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and
Thailand make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN).
"In a thriving economic environment with most Asian countries
recording unprecedented growth rates, multinationals and
customers require seamless services," a spokesman for the
alliance said in a Singapore Telecom statement Wednesday.
The alliance will offer a single point of contact for
customers to order, install and maintain their regional services,
tailored to industries such as manufacturing, finance, mining,
shipping, transport and tourism.
