Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is strengthening its ferry services on the Ajibata-Ambarita route, Lake Toba, North Sumatra, to support smooth tourist mobility during the 2026 Ascension of Jesus Christ long holiday period.
“This route is an important access point to Samosir Island, and also part of a tourism experience that presents the beauty of natural landscapes and the unique cultural richness of the Lake Toba area from the start of the journey,” said Director General of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Heru Widodo in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.
According to Heru, the Ascension of Jesus Christ long holiday from May 14-17, 2026, is a momentum for increased public mobility in various regions. Therefore, ASDP ensures that ferry services on this strategic national route run optimally, especially in areas that are leading tourist attractions in Indonesia. One of the main points of attention is on the Ajibata-Ambarita route, Lake Toba.
“We not only provide connectivity between regions, but also want to be part of the tourism travel experience itself,” he said.
Through ferry services in Lake Toba, ASDP strives to ensure that people can enjoy a memorable journey while supporting the growth of the national tourism sector. With a travel time of around 45 minutes using KMP Ihan Batak and KMP Pora-Pora, passengers can enjoy a comfortable trip while enjoying views of Lake Toba directly from the ship.
Not only offering natural beauty and culture, the Lake Toba area also offers a variety of interesting water tourism activities, such as paddle boarding, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, to parasailing which provide an experience of enjoying the panorama of Lake Toba from the air. These various activities further strengthen Lake Toba’s position as a world-class tourist destination that combines recreation, culture and natural beauty in one area.
The Indonesian Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana emphasized that Lake Toba is not only a leading national destination, but also a symbol of Indonesia’s tourism transformation which prioritizes environmental sustainability and the welfare of local communities. The figure reflects high public mobility as well as the strategic role of this route as the main access to the Lake Toba tourist area and Samosir Island.
“To ensure that services run optimally during the long holiday period, we are strengthening connectivity by optimizing the fleet with the operation of 8 to 12 ferry trips each day starting at 07.30 WIB,” explained Nickson. In addition to the Ajibata-Ambarita route, ASDP Branch Lake Toba also operates a number of other strategic routes, namely Balige-Onanrunggu-Muara via KMP Kaldera Toba, Sibolga-Gunung Sitoli with KMP Jatra I and KMP Jatra II, and the Telukdalam-Pulau Tello route served by KMP Simeulue.
