Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has resumed operations of the KMP Mamberamo Foja to strengthen connectivity in remote, frontier, outermost, and border regions (3TP) in Papua, while ensuring smooth mobility for communities and logistics distribution.

ASDP President Director Heru Widodo stated that the resumption of the vessel’s operations followed a halt due to bad weather on Friday (10/4).

“ASDP has officially resumed operations of the KMP Mamberamo Foja after it was held back by bad weather on Friday (10/4). For communities in 3TP regions, the ferry is not merely a mode of transport but a connector of hope,” said Heru in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He emphasised that ferry services do not only provide transportation but also open access to markets, healthcare services, and drive local economic growth.

Therefore, according to Heru, the resumption of KMP Mamberamo Foja operations is more than just sailing; it ensures that community life continues to run smoothly.

The resumption of the vessel’s operations, he continued, is part of the company’s commitment to maintaining the continuity of public services to the remotest areas, while prioritising safety aspects.

“This is not just about mobility, but about maintaining economic access, logistics distribution, and opening tourism opportunities, especially in eastern Indonesia,” he said.

The KMP Mamberamo Foja serves two main routes: Biak-Teba-Bagusa-Trimuris-Kasonaweja and Biak-Bromsi. Throughout April 2026, the Biak-Teba-Kasonaweja route will operate continuously with departures from Biak in the afternoon, proceeding to Bagusa, Trimuris, and Kasonaweja with variations in morning, afternoon, and evening schedules.

A similar pattern is applied for return journeys to ensure service continuity. Meanwhile, the Biak-Bromsi route is operated periodically with flexible schedules, especially on weekends to early weekdays, covering morning, afternoon, and evening times.

“All operations are conducted with a focus on safety aspects and considering weather conditions, to guarantee reliable and sustainable services,” said Heru.

ASDP Biak Branch General Manager Windra Soelistiawan stated that the vessel has a capacity for 67 passengers and seven vehicles, which is deemed sufficient to support community mobility and logistics distribution.

“The presence of this ferry has a real impact. Community mobility is flowing smoothly again, logistics distribution is maintained, and economic activities are starting to move again,” he explained.

He added that this connectivity serves as a driver for the local economy in the regions it traverses. Biak and Teba are known as producers of seafood, Bagusa and Trimuris as sago centres, Kasonaweja with potential in fisheries and rice, and Bromsi with sweet potato production.

With these regions connected, the distribution of commodities becomes more efficient and adds value, while also opening opportunities for tourism sector development.

Throughout 2025, the KMP Mamberamo Foja served 13,083 passengers, 282 mixed vehicles, and transported around 5,730 tonnes of bulk cargo, underscoring its role as a main connector for the region.

ASDP reaffirms its commitment to continue connecting Indonesia to 3TP regions through safe, reliable, and sustainable ferry services. “Because in every journey, there is life that keeps moving,” said Heru.
