Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry has confirmed that the ferry service on the Hunimua–Waipirit route will operate 24 hours during the Easter holiday period from 3 to 5 April 2026, to maintain smooth mobility for the public from Ambon Island to Seram Island in Maluku. “The 24-hour operation on the Hunimua–Waipirit route is a manifestation of ASDP’s commitment to ensuring accessibility and smooth mobility for the public, especially in island regions,” said ASDP President Director Heru Widodo in Jakarta on Thursday. He emphasised that this policy is a strategy based on experience, referring to the success of similar operational patterns during the 1447 Hijriah Lebaran transport, which proved effective in alleviating congestion and distributing passenger and vehicle flows more evenly. According to him, with the readiness of the fleet and solid coordination with all stakeholders, the company is optimistic that ferry services during the Easter period will run safely and smoothly, particularly in the Maluku region. “In island regions, every movement is not just a journey, but a connector of life,” he stated. He noted that from January to March 2026, the Hunimua–Waipirit route recorded impressive performance, serving 150,331 passengers and 124,078 vehicles. Two-wheeled vehicles dominated with 85,893 units, followed by four-wheeled vehicles with 25,849 units. “These figures affirm the strategic role of the route as the lifeline of inter-regional connectivity, while also reflecting the high public trust in ASDP services,” said Heru. In its operations, the route is served by reliable vessels such as KMP Inelika, KMP Terubuk, KMP Sardinela, KMP Tanjung Kakao, and KMP Rokatenda, with an average travel time of about 1 hour 30 minutes.
