Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ceramic and Variety Industry Association (ASAKI) is confident that national ceramic industry utilisation will reach 75% this year, amid positive recovery trends despite global dynamics.

ASAKI Chairman Edy Suyanto, speaking at a press conference for Indonesia’s Integrated Building, Design and Property Expo in Jakarta on Monday, said the target was revised from an initial 80% to approximately 73-75%.

“We can still meet the target; we have revised it. The initial target was 80% utilisation, but we’ve revised the 2026 utilisation target to 73-75%,” he said.

He explained that national ceramic industry utilisation peaked at 75% in 2021 but later declined, reaching a low of 66% in 2024.

However, he noted that the industry is improving in 2025. According to the latest data from January to May 2026, ceramic industry utilisation reached 72%.

He further explained that in 2020, the high-end ceramic segment accounted for around 23% of total industry capacity, but by 2026, this share has increased to 33% due to factory expansions.

Alongside product quality improvements, the national ceramic industry has continued expanding production capacity. Between 2020 and 2024, it added approximately 73 million square metres of capacity, with a planned additional expansion of 90 million square metres from 2025 to 2029.

With a total capacity increase of nearly 165 million square metres, Edy stated that domestic industry is now capable of meeting domestic market demand without relying on imports.

He also assessed that the quality of domestic ceramic products is now on par with major global producers.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) noted that the national ceramic industry’s installed production capacity currently stands at around 650 million square metres per year, with production utilisation estimated at 73% in 2025 and employing approximately 150,000 workers.

Kemenperin is also continuously strengthening the competitiveness and performance of the national ceramic industry through various strategic initiatives.

These efforts include implementing green industry standards, transitioning to Industry 4.0, increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), and modernising factories through digital technology and advanced manufacturing techniques.

Additionally, design innovation based on global trends is being promoted while leveraging Indonesia’s cultural richness as a differentiator for domestic ceramic products.
