Asahi boosts RI production

TOKYO (AFX-ASIA): Asahi Glass Co Ltd said it will spend 3.8
billion yen in boosting output of caustic soda and chlorine at
its Indonesian joint venture, PT Asahimas Chemical.

An Asahi Chemical spokesperson, confirming an earlier Nihon
Keizai Shimbun report, said the move is intended to meet rising
local demand, adding that PT Asahimas will build new facilities
by April 2002 to increase its annual caustic soda production
capacity by 86,000 tons to 371,000 tons.

PT Asahimas, a major Indonesian maker of PVC-related products,
may also increase PVC-resin production capacity, the spokesperson
added.
