JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Global energy volatility is driving efforts towards efficiency in the household sector. The switch to electric stoves is considered one of the steps to curb consumption of imported energy-based fuels.

Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), Fabby Tumiwa, assesses that the use of electric stoves is effective in reducing LPG consumption. This impact is particularly evident in households.

“If households start using induction cookers, LPG savings could reach more than 130 tons per year,” said Fabby in an official statement on Friday (27/3/2026).

Fabby considers the push for electrification increasingly important. This situation is related to Indonesia’s fiscal sensitivity to global geopolitical volatility, including conflicts in the Middle East.

User experiences show changes in operational costs. Andi Arif, an induction cooker user, noted an increase in his electricity bill of around Rp 30,000 per month.

“From an operational perspective, Andi noted that his electricity bill only increased by around Rp 30,000 per month,” he said.

Monthly cost calculations are considered competitive. Electricity expenses are more stable compared to the continuously rising costs of gas refills.

Similar impacts are felt by small business operators. Siti Sarah (45), a home-based catering MSME actor, stated that production costs have become more economical.

“Since using an electric stove, energy costs for cooking have become more stable and cheaper, the remaining money can be used for additional raw material capital. Cooking is also faster and cleaner, making me more productive in accepting many orders every day,” said Siti.
