Army to help PNG village
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Army Chief of Staff Gen. R. Hartono said his soldiers are prepared to help in some civic works in a village in Papua New Guinea just across the border of Irian Jaya.
"The implementation of this project depends on the requirements of the neighboring country," Hartono said as quoted by Antara.
Hartono explained that the civic work, which includes building public facilities and infrastructure, came at the request of Papua New Guinea's defense minister several years ago.
The Army, which is already active in civic missions along the Irian Jaya border, has allocated 200 troops to the PNG project. (pwn)
