Army Chief of Staff Assures State Will Fulfil All Rights of Three Fallen TNI Soldiers in Lebanon
Jakarta – The Army Chief of Staff (KSAD), General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, has assured that the state will fulfil all entitlements of the three TNI soldiers who perished in southern Lebanon. In addition, the families left behind by these three TNI soldiers will remain part of the greater TNI family. “The state will continue to provide full attention and support,” Maruli stated in his remarks on Sunday, 5 April 2026. He explained that the deaths of these three soldiers represent profound grief for the TNI, particularly the Indonesian Army (TNI AD). However, he continued, their sacrifice in the global peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon serves as a reminder to all that every assignment for soldiers carries risks and sincere sacrifices for the nation and humanity. Despite the risks, Maruli emphasised that such sacrifices will not diminish the TNI and TNI AD’s commitment to contributing to global peacekeeping missions. “On the contrary, the spirit, dedication, and bravery of the fallen soldiers must serve as an example for all soldiers wherever they are stationed and serve,” he said. As a final tribute, the KSAD led the farewell ceremony for the three bodies of TNI soldiers who died while carrying out duties as UN Peacekeeping Troops within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) contingent in southern Lebanon, held at the VIP Apron of Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Saturday, 4 April 2026. The three bodies arrived in Jakarta on Saturday around 5:00 PM WIB on a flight from Turkey. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was present to pay his last respects as the bodies were laid in state in the VIP room of Terminal 3 before being transported to their respective regions for military funerals. The procession began with the handover of the bodies from the unit to the state, received directly by the KSAD. The farewell ceremony was conducted solemnly as a form of honour to the three best soldiers of the nation: Major Inf (Posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Serka (Posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Kopda (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon. “We receive the return of the bodies of three of the nation’s best soldiers who fell while carrying out duties as UN Peacekeeping Troops in Lebanon. We are deeply saddened. They were our finest sons, selected to carry out the peacekeeping mission,” Maruli stated.
