Army battalion fetes anniversary

JAKARTA (JP): The 7/105 GS Biring Galih Artillery Battalion
commemorated its 18th anniversary in a ceremony at its
headquarters in Cikiwul, Bekasi on Wednesday.

The battalion, which was formerly based in Medan, North
Sumatra, was moved to Jakarta last year. It is now under the
Jakarta Military Command.

In a written speech read by Brig. Gen. Sutiyoso, chief of
staff of the Jakarta Military Command, Jakarta Military Commander
Maj. Gen. Wiranto urged battalion members to be completely
professional in carrying out their tasks as true soldiers. He
also asked officers in charge of the battalion to keep instilling
a high degree of discipline in their charges.

The battalion has been equipped with brand new facilities,
including a French made Meriam GS cannon. The artillery cannon is
pulled by AMX tanks, which are known to have a high level of
mobility and can be used in any situation. (bas)
