Argo Bromo vs KRL Accident: Kenneth of DKI DPRD Emphasises Modernisation of Safety Systems
Kenneth assesses that the incident not only leaves wounds for the victims’ families but also becomes a sorrow for all Indonesian society, particularly users of rail transport. “I personally extend my deepest condolences to all the victims’ families. May the deceased victims obtain the best place by the side of the Almighty God, and may the bereaved families be granted strength and resilience,” stated Kenneth in his remarks on Wednesday (29/4/2026). Bang Kent—the familiar nickname for Hardiyanto Kenneth—also prays for the injured victims under treatment to recover quickly and return to their normal activities. “This incident must serve as a serious warning to all stakeholders, especially railway operators and regulators, to conduct a thorough evaluation of the safety system,” explained the Member of Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD. Kent emphasises the importance of a transparent and comprehensive investigation to uncover the main cause of the accident, so that preventive measures can be promptly implemented. “The safety of rail service users must be the top priority. This includes updating signalling technology, improving infrastructure quality, and strengthening operational monitoring systems,” asserted the Chairman of IKAL PPRA Class LXII. In addition, Kent encourages a comprehensive audit of operational systems, track arrangements, and safety standards, particularly at vulnerable points where train tracks intersect. “It is not enough to rely solely on post-accident handling. There must be a thorough evaluation from upstream to downstream, including train journey control systems and track supervision,” he stressed. Kent also hopes that the victims’ families receive proper assistance, both medically and psychologically. He emphasises the importance of a transparent investigation process so that the public gains clarity on the incident. He also highlights the importance of ongoing training for personnel and the implementation of automatic technology to prevent future accidents. Furthermore, he requests that safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) be enforced without compromise. “Every potential negligence must be anticipated with a strong system and high discipline from all parties,” he added. On the other hand, he greatly appreciates the swift work of the SAR team, medical personnel, and all parties involved in the evacuation and victim handling process. Moving forward, Kent hopes for improved coordination between the central government, local governments, and rail operators to ensure passenger safety. “This incident must not be repeated. Public transportation must become a safe, comfortable, and trustworthy space for the community,” he concluded.
