Arab World and Indonesia Outraged! Israel's Law on Death Penalty for Palestinians Sparks Strong Condemnation
The Indonesian government and several other countries have strongly condemned the implementation of Israel’s law that allows for the application of the death penalty against Palestinian citizens, stating that the practice is increasingly discriminatory and strengthens the apartheid system.
This was conveyed by the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on social media in Jakarta on Thursday (3/4).
“The Ministers reaffirm their opposition to Israel’s racially discriminatory, oppressive, and aggressive policies that target Palestinian citizens,” the official statement quoted.
The statement said that Israel’s practices are becoming increasingly discriminatory and are further strengthening the apartheid system and the denialist discourse that denies the inalienable rights and existence of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).
They underscored that the law represents a dangerous escalation, particularly its discriminatory application against Palestinian detainees, and emphasised that such actions risk exacerbating tensions and undermining regional stability.
They also expressed deep concern over the conditions of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, warning of increasing risks amid credible reports of ongoing violations, including torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, starvation, and denial of basic rights.
“The Ministers further emphasise the need for all parties to exercise restraint from actions imposed by the occupying power that risk further exacerbating tensions on the ground,” the statement said.
They stressed the importance of ensuring accountability and called for strengthening international efforts to maintain stability and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
