Aquino wants truth about her husband
MANILA (AP): Former Philippine president Corazon Aquino said yesterday a former military chief of staff under late dictator Ferdinand Marcos should now tell the truth about her husband's assassination 15 years ago.
President Joseph Estrada said Wednesday he would allow former Gen. Fabian Ver to return to the Philippines after fleeing the country with Marcos at the height of the 1986 "people power" revolt that toppled the strongman.
Estrada said Ver had to face charges over the Aug. 21, 1983 assassination of opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr., who was shot moments after he stepped off the plane on his return from exile in the United States.
The assassination triggered massive anti-Marcos protests that culminated in the revolt that swept Aquino's widow to the presidency.
