Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa delivered positive news on the national fiscal position. The deficit of the Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara (APBN) for April 2026 narrowed to Rp164.4 trillion, or 0.64% of GDP. This marks a significant improvement from March 2026, when the deficit reached Rp240.1 trillion (0.93% of GDP), even as the pace of national spending remained high. According to the APBN KiTa April 2026 edition, revenue reached Rp918.4 trillion, up 13.3% year on year. Expenditure realised stood at Rp1,082.8 trillion, up 34.3% yoy. ‘There is good news,’ Purbaya said at the APBN KiTa press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (19/5). ‘The deficit is only Rp164.4 trillion or 0.64% of GDP.’ Purbaya also highlighted that the primary balance has returned to a surplus of Rp28 trillion. He stressed that this improvement did not come from restraint on government spending, but from strong revenue performance. ‘As you can see, the primary balance is already back in surplus at Rp28 trillion. So the previous primary surplus did not occur because spending was cut,’ he emphasised. Taxation remains the backbone with revenue of Rp746.9 trillion (up 13.7% yoy). Specifically, tax revenue reached Rp646.3 trillion, up 16.1% yoy. Meanwhile, Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) contributed Rp171.3 trillion, up 11.6% yoy. On the expenditure side, central government outlays reached Rp826 trillion, comprising expenditures for ministries/agencies (K/L) of Rp400.5 trillion and non-K/L expenditure of Rp425.5 trillion. Transfers to the regions have been realised at Rp256.8 trillion. The government affirmed that the APBN will continue to be focused on supporting national economic growth and reinforcing household purchasing power, while keeping the fiscal position within a safe margin.
