To support environmental protection efforts, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is holding the 2026 Pilah Olah Sampah Heroes awards.

Nominations for people who could win in either of the two categories can be submitted via www.jakarta.go.id/pilaholahsampahheroes from 12 to 25 October 2025.

The winners will be announced and receive awards directly from the Governor of DKI Jakarta at a Heroes’ Day commemoration on 10 November 2026.

The awards are intended to recognise environmental champions who take practical action or actively encourage residents to care about waste.

There are two categories: Waste-Sorting and Processing Advocate, and Influencer/Key Opinion Leader (KOL), for people who consistently drive change.

“Come on, register yourself before 25 October 2026 for the chance to receive an award directly from the Governor of DKI Jakarta,” the DKI Jakarta account said in an Instagram post quoted on Friday (22 October).

According to the provincial government’s official website, the award will recognise people considered most consistent in sorting and processing waste, making an impact and mobilising others in their communities.

‘Sorting’ means using separate bins, keeping organic and inorganic waste apart, doing so consistently, and undertaking activities to clean and process waste.

‘Processing’ includes making compost, using maggots to break down waste, producing eco-enzyme, recycling, using biodigesters and disposing of waste in appropriate places.

‘Mobilisation’ includes encouraging family members and neighbours to take part, forming groups, educating the public, reducing waste generated in an area and managing a Waste Bank.

The Waste-Sorting and Processing Advocate category is for people selected for sorting and processing waste and encouraging others to participate.

The Influencer category is for individuals who can persuade or influence residents to sort and process waste through social media.
