Apple Investment in Indonesia Set to Increase as Three New Vendors Explore Opportunities

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani made the announcement after discussions with three Apple vendors currently exploring investment opportunities in Indonesia.

"We see that Apple's investment, based on our communications with them, will actually increase. It will increase. Why? Because we have already spoken with three other Apple vendors about investing in Indonesia," said Rosan at the BKPM office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 29 April 2025.

He explained that the potential increase in Apple investment is being driven by the involvement of Huayou, a Chinese company known to supply various components for Apple products, including the iPhone. The company is currently exploring cooperation opportunities with Indonesia.

"Apple products are actually supplied extensively by Huayou. Many products needed by Apple are also manufactured by Huayou, because for a single handset alone, there are more than 340 components. For one handset, typically the iPhone 16. It turns out that many of their outsourced components come from Chinese companies," Rosan revealed.

Indonesia therefore has significant potential to become a production base for Apple components if these vendors follow through on their investments, he added.

"So we conveyed this to them. Now they intend to invest in Indonesia, to supply Apple among others. So in future, Indonesia could also supply Apple. This is another opportunity we will explore further to increase investment in Indonesia, particularly in technology sectors," he said.

Beyond this, Rosan also confirmed that the Apple AirTag factory construction project in Batam remains on track. Apple has already acquired land for the facility, he noted.

"That is progressing well, thank God. They have also purchased land in Batam. So investment continues, even though there are geopolitical and economic tensions. Thank God, this continues in accordance with their commitment," he affirmed.

Apple has committed to building an AirTag production facility in Batam valued at US$1 billion, or approximately Rp16 trillion, as part of its investment expansion in Indonesia.
