Apple Committed to Increasing Investment in Indonesia, Says Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani
Investment Minister and BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani has spoken about the progress of Apple's investment in Indonesia. According to him, the US technology giant is committed to increasing the value of its investment in the country.
"We see that Apple's investment, based on our communications with them, will actually increase, because we have already spoken with three other Apple vendors about investing in Indonesia," said Rosan on Tuesday, 29 April 2025.
Rosan further noted that Chinese company Huayou is one of the component suppliers for Apple products. Huayou is currently exploring opportunities for cooperation with Indonesia in electric vehicle batteries.
"Actually, many Apple products are also supplied by Huayou. Many products needed by Apple are also manufactured by Huayou," Rosan explained.
"For just one handphone alone, there are more than 340 products. For one handphone, usually the iPhone 16. It turns out that many of the outsourced components come from Chinese companies," he added.
On the same occasion, Rosan confirmed that the construction of Apple's AirTag factory in Batam remains on track.
"Regarding Apple's investment, it is progressing well. They have already purchased the land in Batam, have surveyed the area, and everything else is in order. So the investment continues to proceed despite geopolitical and geoeconomic tensions, and it remains on track with their commitments," he said.
Previously, Rosan stated that Apple would build a factory in Indonesia, which would supply 65 per cent of the world's AirTag requirements.
"This is the initial phase, and later one of the vendors being established in Indonesia will supply 65 per cent of Apple's global AirTag needs," said Rosan on Wednesday, 15 January 2025.
According to him, the investment is valued at US$1 billion, equivalent to Rp16 trillion, with the potential to create up to 2,000 jobs. The investment will continue to be encouraged until it reaches US$10 billion, and the vendor factory is targeted for completion by early 2026.
