Appearance of Indonesia's Latest Warship, a 6,000-Ton Giant in Southeast Asia
The Republic of Indonesia Ship (KRI) Prabu Siliwangi-321 docked at Pier 107, Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026). KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 arrived at Tanjung Priok Port on Thursday (26/3) after a 44-day journey from La Spezia, Italy, crossing the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. This Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA)-type warship is the latest defence equipment produced by Fincantieri, Italy, projected as a strategic element in supporting Indonesia’s maritime strength. KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is currently Indonesia’s largest and most modern warship. The ship weighs more than 6,000 tonnes, is 143 m long, 16.5 m wide, has a draught of 5.2 m, and a maximum speed of 32 knots powered by a combined diesel, electric, and gas turbine propulsion system. It also features Naval Cockpit technology that enables digital integration of navigation and weapon systems, similar to a fighter aircraft cockpit, and is equipped with a 127 mm Vulcano main gun, making it the first Indonesian Navy ship to operate a large-calibre gun. “KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is a frigate type that is among the largest in size in Southeast Asia. Its presence will enhance our capabilities in safeguarding national sovereignty at sea because the sensors it has are far better than previous classes,” said Navy Chief of Staff Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali, quoted from kemhan.go.id. In addition to combat functions, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is also designed to support humanitarian missions and search and rescue (SAR).
