Anwar Usman Retires from the Constitutional Court: I Offer My Apologies
JAKARTA - Former Constitutional Court Justice Anwar Usman expressed apologies during his retirement ceremony from the institution known as the guardian of the constitution. The apologies were directed to all MK personnel who had worked with him over 15 years. “From the depths of my heart, I extend my apologies to all the Honourable Justices, assistants, and the entire Constitutional Court family if, during my 15 years at the Constitutional Court, there were any displeasing matters,” said Anwar Usman at his retirement ceremony in the MK Building, Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026), quoted from the MKRI YouTube broadcast. “Thus, from the tips of my toes to the ends of my hair, from the depths of my heart, I offer my apologies and boundless thanks,” he continued. He officially retired from the constitutional guardian institution on 6 April 2026, after 15 years as an MK Justice. During the event, Anwar shared his experiences with the nine active MK Justices. He emphasised that serving as a constitutional justice is a heavy duty, involving risks such as criticism and pressure. “The risk of upholding truth, law, and justice. For no matter how long, no judge can deliver a decision that satisfies all parties,” said Anwar. “I will never take a single step back in upholding truth, law, and justice,” said Anwar. Anwar views his retirement from the MK as a new page in his life after 15 years of duty. “Praise be to God, I conclude my duties, leaving this building with a relieved heart. I shed tears earlier not for any particular reason, because of the many joys and sorrows I experienced,” said Anwar Usman.
