Anti-Corruption Commission Summons Former Special Staff of Ex-Religion Minister Yaqut as Suspect Next Week
JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) has scheduled the summons of Ishfah Abidal Aziz, commonly known as Gus Alex, the former special staff of ex-Religion Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, as a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the 2023-2024 hajj quota scheme.
The announcement was made by Asep Guntur Rahayu, the KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, during a press conference regarding Yaqut’s detention on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
“We will summon the individual in question for next week,” Asep stated at the Red and White Building in Jakarta.
However, Asep did not disclose the fees that Gus Alex and Yaqut allegedly received from the scheme. “We are currently calculating the precise amount received by YCQ (Yaqut), so we will wait for those details. We are also calculating what GA (Gus Alex) received,” he explained.
Yaqut was formally detained following his examination as a suspect at the Red and White Building. “Today, the KPK has detained Suspect YCQ for the initial 20-day period from 12-31 March 2026. Detention is being carried out at the KPK’s State Detention Centre Branch at the Red and White Building in Jakarta,” Asep announced during the press conference.
Yaqut has been charged under Article 2(1) and/or Article 3 of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Offences.
The KPK has determined that state losses resulting from the alleged hajj quota corruption case amount to 622 billion Indonesian rupiah.
