ANTARA News Agency Holds Journalism Training for Students in West Kalimantan
Pontianak (ANTARA) - Perum LKBN ANTARA held standard news agency journalism training for 41 students in West Kalimantan through its Social and Environmental Responsibility Programme (TJSL), conducted at Tanjungpura University in Pontianak on Tuesday.
“The activity we are organising aims to improve information literacy, journalistic skills, and understanding of press ethics among students and the public. This programme is designed to provide practical knowledge in journalism while producing intelligent journalists who adhere to the code of ethics,” said the Head of Perum LKBN ANTARA’s West Kalimantan Bureau, Helti Marini Sipayung, in Pontianak on Tuesday.
She explained that the training targeted student press (persma) as well as students from various higher education institutions, including Sambas State Polytechnic, FISIPOL Untan, FKIP Untan, Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak, BSI University, PGRI University of Pontianak, and several other faculties at Untan Pontianak.
The materials provided covered the basics of journalism, news writing techniques, interviewing, research, use of supporting technology, journalistic ethics, and infographic creation. In addition, participants were equipped with skills in digital content production and video journalism according to news agency standards.
Helti stated that the activity is part of LKBN ANTARA’s commitment as a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) to improving information literacy at the student level.
She appreciated the participants for taking the time to attend the training, hoping that the knowledge provided could be utilised optimally.
“Time is very valuable and cannot be repeated. We thank our friends for being present. Hopefully, this half-day training provides benefits that can be taken,” she said.
Helti revealed that this journalism training is not the first time it has been held. In 2024, ANTARA also carried out similar activities as part of the TJSL Programme.
This year, the activity was expanded with an additional greening programme carried out in Mega Timur Village, Kubu Raya Regency.
She added that the training is also part of efforts to regenerate journalists. ANTARA, she said, routinely opens opportunities for the younger generation to directly get to know the world of journalism.
“We hope that from this training, cadres of young journalists will emerge who can later contribute, even join ANTARA,” she said.
On that occasion, participants also received direct materials from the central editorial journalist, Alfian, who provided training on professional journalistic practices.
Helti also introduced ANTARA as the National News Agency established in 1937 with a network across all provinces in Indonesia. As a news provider, ANTARA supplies information to various national and international media, as well as developing public platforms such as news portals, photojournalism services, and television content.
According to her, through this training, participants can understand various fields in journalism, from news writing, photojournalism, to video production.
“Becoming a journalist is interesting, but it also requires a process and discipline. We hope this training can open horizons and motivate friends to plunge into the world of journalism,” she said.
The activity is expected to strengthen the capacity of students in producing quality information content, as well as support a professional and integrity-based press ecosystem in West Kalimantan.
