Ansett adds flights

JAKARTA (JP): Ansett Australia will operate an additional flight every Thursday using a Boeing 747-300 aircraft from Jakarta to Sydney, bringing its total service between the two cities to seven flights a week, the airline announced yesterday.

Ansett's international general manager, Craig Wallace, said in a statement that the additional Jakarta-Sydney flight, which started today, would enable travelers between the two cities to use the airline's service on any day of the week.

The announcement came a month after the Ansett celebrated the first year of operations to and from Jakarta.

Ansett has been running services to Australia from Denpasar in Bali since 1993 and at present has 10 scheduled flights a week to Bali from Australia.

In Jakarta last month the airline, in conjunction with Tourism New South Wales, launched "Sydney Surprise Package" which was targeted at independent Indonesian travelers.

The 60-year airline company at present operates around 90 jet aircraft to serve international networks, including Denpasar, Osaka, Hong Kong, Taipei, Auckland, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul. (10)
