Another TNI Soldier Falls in Lebanon, MPR Leader Calls for Severe Sanctions Against Israel
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) has strongly condemned the Israeli attack that once again killed a TNI soldier serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). As forces carrying out the United Nations (UN) mandate, he calls for severe sanctions against Israel, which has killed UNIFIL personnel. “The UN should impose sanctions on Israel, as reported by the Foreign Ministry and the UN Secretariat as the perpetrator of the attack that killed four TNI soldiers and injured four others. Israel’s actions clearly violate international law regarding the prohibition on attacking non-combatants and UN personnel as stipulated in the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1994 UN Personnel Safety Convention,” Hidayat stated in a press release on Monday (27/4/2026). The UN, as the body overseeing UNIFIL, should be responsible for a series of Israeli attacks in Lebanon. “They are present in Lebanon on the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission and have full UN mandate, so the UN should be responsible for providing maximum protection and imposing harsh sanctions on Israel for attacking UN peacekeeping forces, to deliver justice and peace for the victims, their families, and the sending country,” Hidayat said. The latest death of the TNI soldier in Lebanon, namely Praka Rico Pramudia, must be seriously investigated by the UN. In addition, he appreciates the Foreign Ministry’s urging of the UN to conduct a comprehensive, transparent, and accountable investigation. “The state must still carry out other constitutional obligations, namely to protect all citizens and Indonesian blood so that they do not become victims of atrocities and war crimes like those committed by Israel,” Hidayat said. He is the fourth TNI soldier to die during the TNI’s peacekeeping mission with the UN in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL). Citing a UNIFIL statement, Rico, aged 31, was injured at the UNIFIL base in Adchit Al Qusayr. He died from his injuries at a hospital in Beirut. The UN’s initial investigation found that the deaths of TNI soldiers Farizal Rhomadon and Rico Pramudia were caused by Israeli tank fire in Lebanon on 29 March. The incident also injured two soldiers, namely Praka Bayu Prakoso and Praka Arif Kurniawan. “This is a preliminary finding, based on initial physical evidence,” the UN stated in an email to the BBC on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
