Annan to visit Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): United Nations Secretary-General Kofi
Annan will arrive here tomorrow for a four-day visit, coinciding
with an East Asian summit, reports said yesterday.

Annan, accompanied by his wife and UN officials, is scheduled
to meet Malaysian King Tuanku Jaa'far and Prime Minister Mahathir
Mohamad, the New Straits Times reported.

He will also attend briefings by the economic planning unit,
the multimedia development corporation and deliver a dinner talk
organized by the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs.

Annan's visit to Malaysia will be the second by a UN
secretary-general following a visit by Javier Perez de Cuellar in
1985. His trip coincides with a three-day summit between the nine
ASEAN countries and China, Japan and South Korea starting Sunday.
