Anker Faces Consecutive Trials During Monday Evening Rush Hour on Green Line
Commuter train passengers endured consecutive ordeals during the journey on the KRL Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung route, or Green Line, which suffered disruptions last night. The KRL faced electrical issues, flooding, and stuffy carriages.
As compiled by detikcom on Tuesday (5/5/2026), the disruption on the KRL Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung route initially occurred on Monday (4/5) afternoon at 17:30 WIB. The disruption was due to electrical problems and flooding; here are the facts.
- Disruption Due to Lightning Strike
KAI Commuter reported that the disruption was caused by an electrical issue resulting from a lightning strike. Staff temporarily implemented journey rerouting as a result.
“After inspection by staff, operational disruption occurred on the Overhead Electrical Line between Jurangmangu Station and Pondok Ranji Station due to the impact of a lightning strike, and it is currently being addressed,” KAI Commuter wrote on its official X account on Monday (4/5).
KRL journeys were delayed, and KAI Commuter apologised for the incident. As a result, passengers complained about the air conditioning inside the KRL being off.
- AC Off - Stuffy Carriages Due to Power Failure in KRL
Several KRL users posted complaints about the incident. Users stated that the AC inside the KRL was off, causing stuffy conditions in the carriages.
Some users also questioned the estimated repair time. There were also users who reported passenger build-up at stations.
Passengers were temporarily trapped and startled by the power outage inside the train carriage. It was raining at the time.
“Earlier, when entering Jurangmangu Station, the KRL suddenly lost power and was held for about 5 minutes,” said Nicolas Galih when contacted by detikcom on Monday (4/5).
- Passengers Jump from KRL
One passenger, Nares (30), recounted his experience of being trapped in the powerless train. Nares departed from Kebayoran Lama Station.
“So earlier, the journey started from Kebayoran Station. Midway to Pondok Ranji, the power went out but the train was still moving. Then, just before reaching Pondok Ranji, the train stopped completely. So we waited inside the train from around 16:39 to 17:29, I think. Almost an hour,” said Nares on Monday (4/5/2026).
Nares said the train doors and windows were opened due to the stuffy atmosphere inside the KRL carriage. Local residents, he said, approached the tracks to provide assistance.
“Because it was hot and stuffy inside, the windows were opened, the doors were opened. There were many people along the tracks, like local residents. So we checked and asked, what if we jump. In the end, we were helped by nearby staff. Some held on. Then someone offered a ladder for us to get down,” Nares stated.
Nares said he and his friend received a foothold from local residents because the drop from the train to the road was quite high. Other passengers also got off, he said, due to the complete train stoppage.
- Disruption Also Caused by Flooding
The Green Line KRL route from Tanah Abang also experienced disruptions besides the power outage from the lightning. The track between Kebayoran Station and Pondok Ranji was also flooded due to heavy rain.
“There is water pooling due to heavy rain between the tracks of Kebayoran Station and Pondok Ranji,” stated @CommuterLine, viewed on Monday (4/5) at 18:56 WIB.
It was conveyed that KRL journeys could not yet pass through. KRL users were advised to follow instructions and information from on-site staff.
“Prioritise safety and we apologise for the inconvenience,” wrote the KAI Commuter account.
As of 18:24 WIB, KAI Commuter stated that Rangkasbitung return journeys could currently use one track alternately. It was also explained that KRL journeys only went as far as Serpong.
- Passenger Build-Up at Several Stations
As a result of the incident, passenger build-up occurred at several stations on the Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung route yesterday afternoon into the evening. One passenger reported a build-up at Jurangmangu Station due to the disruption.
“Still held at Jurangmangu. Around 5 pm (disruption). When (the KRL) entered Jurangmangu Station, the power suddenly went out, and from the KRL announcer, passengers were to disembark because the KRL would be closed,” said Galih to reporters on Monday (4/5/2026).
Conditions at Jurangmangu Station at 17:30 WIB were crowded. Passengers piled up on the station platform.
Passenger build-up also occurred on platform 1 at Kebayoran Station at 21:10 WIB on Monday night, shortly after the Serpong KRL recovered. The platform was seen filled with passengers.
Even the queue of passengers was crowded up to 5 rows. The queue became denser when the Rangkasbitung-bound KRL train entered platform 1 at Kebayoran Station.
- Passengers Wait for Hours
Passengers had to wait for hours due to the KRL disruption. One passenger, Maya, also waited for hours due to the KRL disruption. Maya had arrived at Kebayoran Station since 18:30 WIB, but until 19:50 WIB, the KRL disruption had not been resolved.
“Half past 4 from Tanah Abang, turns out the journey only goes this far. Around 6 pm (arrived at Kebayoran Station). (Until 19:50 WIB) not yet (any train) here,” said Maya when met by detikcom at Kebayoran Station, South Jakarta, on Monday (4/5).
Even passengers had to jostle to enter the carriages after the KRL could start passing through.
- KRL Starts Returning to Normal
KRL journeys on the Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung route or Green Line have returned to normal after hours of disruptions from power outages and track flooding. Passengers jostled to enter the carriages.
detikcom observations at Kebayoran Station on Monday (4/5) showed KRL starting to pass at 21:11 WIB. Passengers piled up waiting on the platform.
When the KRL passed, passengers jostled to enter the carriages. KRL passed every 20 minutes.
KAI Commuter stated that the handling of the electrical disruption on the Green Line or Tanah Abang route KRL has been completed. Meanwhile, the pooling on that route is also starting to recede.
