Film director and founder of Visinema, Angga Dwimas Sasongko, believes that artificial intelligence (AI) cannot displace human creativity in the film industry. Despite increasingly sophisticated AI tools and technology, Sasongko contends that AI is not a primary solution in the artistic creation process.

“I do not believe AI will be a solution when it comes to creating. Why? Because AI is too perfect,” said Sasongko during a media discussion with Xiaomi in South Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2025).

Sasongko stated that the value of an artwork actually lies in its imperfection—something inherently human. According to him, this is what gives a work high artistic value and makes it relevant to society.

“What makes an artwork extremely valuable and possess artistic merit is when the story is beautifully mesh, beautifully imperfect,” said Sasongko.

Nevertheless, the director of “Searching for Raden Saleh” acknowledged that AI can still assist the creative process. He believes technology can make production more productive and efficient.

Sasongko himself acknowledged frequently using AI applications to assist in research and dialectical processes. For him, AI can help articulate ideas or feelings that were previously difficult to express.

“Perhaps previously we could not articulate what we felt, we create a prompt to find the articulation, and then it can come out with that articulation,” said Sasongko.
