Andrie Yunus's Eyes Reported Not to Be Blinded After Acid Attack, Here's His Condition
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The condition of Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, is reported to be gradually improving after he became a victim of an acid attack.
Human rights activist Fatia Maulidiyanti conveyed this development based on the results of examinations by the medical team at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).
“So Andrie’s eyes can still be saved, he will not go blind, and his skin can also be repaired,” said Fatia during a press conference at the HDI Hive Building, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Fatia added that Andrie’s overall health condition shows improvement while undergoing intensive treatment at RSCM.
In addition to the eyes, the skin wounds from the acid attack can still be treated. The medical team, said Fatia, will perform a series of operations to restore the affected skin tissue.
“So, we ask for prayers from all viewers, attendees, and fellow journalists for Andrie’s recovery,” said Fatia.
Currently, Andrie is still being treated in the High Care Unit (HCU) and cannot receive visits, except from family.
“Except (visited) by his family. And besides that, Andrie currently also needs to undergo several series of operations for his eyes or skin,” said Fatia.
Previously, the National General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) revealed Andrie’s medical condition following the incident that occurred on Thursday (12/3/2026).
“That condition caused a sharp decline in vision and damage to the corneal surface,” said Yoga in a press release confirmed by Kompas.com on Tuesday (17/3/2026).
To address this condition, the medical team has cleaned the damaged tissue on the right eye, as well as transplanted an amniotic membrane to protect the eye surface and support the healing process.
Andrie was brought to the RSCM Emergency Department on Friday (13/3/2026) in the early hours around 00:00 WIB with complaints of burns on several parts of the body, such as the face, neck, chest, back, both arms, and eyes.
Examination results showed that Andrie suffered burns covering about 20 percent of the total body surface area.
