Andrian and Yoon win men's doubles' final
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's Andrian Raturandang who paired with Yoon Yong-il of South Korea won the men's doubles final of the Men's Indonesian Fertilizer Future 4 at Kemayoran Tennis Center on Saturday.
Andrian and Yoon -- second seeded for the event and ranked world no. 939 -- faced a tough battle in three sets to overcome Thailand's non-seeded Narathorn and Paradorn Srichaphan -- 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Andrian's manager August Ferry Raturandang said Andrian and Yoon were able to break the service of the Thais in the first set. But in the second set, Andrian and Yoon failed to maintain their offense and succumbed to pressure from their opponents.
"Andrian and Yoon took advantage of the Srichaphan brothers' weak services, especially Narathorn's. But Andrian and Yoon were weaker in the second set and made many unforced errors. Maybe they thought they could win the set easily," he said.
Ferry said in the third set when the two pairs were tied 4-4, the Thai brothers tried to take the lead, but Andrian managed to break Paradorn's service.
"After Andrian made a service break, the pair went up quickly to 5-4 and ended the game 6-4," said Ferry, who is also Andrian's uncle.
Andrian and Yoon will fly to South Korea and the United States to take part in several challenger and satellite tournaments.
"They have the ambition to be Asia's number two men's doubles, after Indians Mahesh Bhupati and Leander Paes. I think our men's doubles have the chance to go international," Ferry said.
The 1998 Asian Games gold medalist Yoon also secured a place in the men's single final on Sunday after defeating second seeded and world ranked 300 Hideki Kaneko of Japan 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday.
Fifth seed and world no. 414 Yoon will challenge dark horse Ric De Voest of South Africa, who upset fourth-seeded Danai Udomchoke of Thailand 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.(ivy)b
