Andrean loses to world champ

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) Master (MP) Andrean Susilodinata, 10, surrendered before world champion Russian Dmitri Andreikine in the ninth round of the World Youth Chess Championship in Oropesa del Mar, Spain, on Friday.

Dmitri crushed Andrean at the 33rd move of Panov offense variation of the Caro-Kann defense. Dmitri is leading with 8 VPs while Andrean is in fourth place with 6.5 VPs.

MP Susanto Megaranto, 13, and MP Taufik Halay also lost.

Susanto was defeated by Jure Borisek of Slovenia at the 54th move of Spanish defense while Taufik conceded defeat to Dariusz Szoen of Poland at the 41st move of the Hindu King defense.

Susanto and Taufik share the 27th spot with 5 VPs each.

Meanwhile in the age 12 category, MP Ferry Ferdiansyah defeated Jan Priborsky of Czech Republic at the 35th move of French defense. Ferry collected 5.5 VPs.

MP Tirta Chandra playing in the 14-years age category, beat Pedro Cossa of Mozambique in 12 moves. He now has 4.5 VPs. (nvn)
