Andre Rosiade Hosts Communal Rendang Cooking with Disaster Survivors at Batang Anai Temporary Shelter
Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives Commission VI Andre Rosiade collaborated with food vlogger Chef Magdalena and Uda Dian to hold a communal rendang cooking event and iftar meal served in the traditional bajamba style at the Batang Anai temporary shelter complex in Padang Pariaman Regency. Hundreds of shelter residents, who are survivors of the late 2025 flash floods, appeared enthusiastic and enjoyed the moment of togetherness.
The rendang cooking event was held on Saturday (21 February). Andre, together with his wife Nurul Anastasia, also distributed 100 basic food parcels to shelter residents and local communities in Talao Mundam, Nagari Ketaping, Batang Anai.
The special rendang dish and an array of traditional Minangkabau cuisine accompanied the communal iftar, which was attended by Padang Pariaman regional councillor and Gerindra Party Padang Pariaman branch chairman Wira Satria, Batang Anai sub-district head Zalbadri, and Talao Mundam village head Harjoni. The event was intended as a symbol of solidarity, compassion, and renewed hope for the residents of the Batang Anai temporary shelter.
Andre Rosiade explained that the Batang Anai temporary shelter comprises 40 units housing approximately 120 people from various disaster-affected areas across Padang Pariaman. He noted that operations at the Batang Anai shelter have been running smoothly.
"Chef Magdalena, Uda Dian and I had been planning this event since before Ramadan. Thank God we were finally able to gather again with the Batang Anai shelter residents. This is our third visit here — previously during the finishing process and during the Commission VI inspection visit. The shelter is running well, although there are still some matters that need improvement," Andre said in a written statement on Sunday (22 February 2026).
Chef Magdalena, known online as Mgdalenaf, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to cook rendang alongside the shelter residents. Together with Chef Dian Anugrah, she brought complete cooking equipment and prepared approximately 35 kilogrammes of rendang with her team and local residents.
"We brought a large cauldron and cooked 35 kilogrammes of rendang for the residents' iftar. It was wonderful to share this moment of togetherness at the Batang Anai temporary shelter," said Magdalena.
Padang Pariaman regional councillor Wira Satria said he was moved by the social initiative led by Andre Rosiade. He noted that as chairman of the Gerindra West Sumatra provincial board and a member of the national House of Representatives, Andre had set a tangible example of concern for disaster-affected communities.
"Thank you to Chairman Andre Rosiade for bringing this rendang cooking and communal bajamba dining event to the shelter residents. This is an extraordinary display of compassion," said Wira Satria, a native of Batang Anai.
Meanwhile, Talao Mundam village head Harjoni expressed his appreciation for the attention shown by Andre Rosiade and Chef Magdalena in bringing warmth to the temporary shelter. Residents, he said, had not expected to break their fast alongside a national parliamentarian and a nationally known chef.
"Thank God, and thank you to Pak Andre Rosiade. The event went smoothly and was very well received by the community. This is especially meaningful as it is the second time Pak Andre has distributed basic food parcels. We pray for his continued health and success," he said.
Batang Anai sub-district head Zalbadri, who was present from the start of the event, also assessed the activity as highly beneficial and morale-boosting for the residents. "Thank you to Pak Andre Rosiade and Chef Magdalena for coming directly to break fast with the residents. This is truly special and provides great motivation for the shelter community," he added.
