Analysis of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme: Economic and Educational Impact at Regional Level
The Directorate General of Politics and General Government (Ditjen Polpum) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has released monitoring findings on the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme’s impact in public discourse. Based on media monitoring and public conversation dynamics, the programme demonstrates tangible effects on regional economies and the educational environment.
Monitoring data from Ditjen Polpum indicates that discussions related to MBG have developed dynamically, particularly on social media. While some incidental issues garnered attention, public reporting and responses simultaneously highlighted programme benefits for local economic circulation and regional SME participation.
“Implementation data from several regions shows significant economic impact. In Sampang Regency, East Java, the MBG programme has driven daily cash circulation of approximately 2.8 billion rupiah and absorbed approximately 5,400 workers,” stated Ditjen Polpum in Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.
“Meanwhile in Serang Regency, Banten, local SMEs are actively involved in food supply chains. This demonstrates the programme’s contribution to strengthening community economies,” the Directorate General noted.
Beyond economic aspects, monitoring also recorded positive responses from the educational sector. The fulfillment of student nutritional requirements is considered to support improved focus and learning readiness, making the learning process more conducive. This indicates that MBG has strategic dimensions in supporting human resource quality.
Ditjen Polpum also observed MBG implementation during Ramadan, which continued with adjusted distribution patterns. This approach demonstrates policy adaptability to social and religious contexts whilst maintaining the sustainability of public services.
