Amran targets completion of integrated poultry downstream development within 1.5 years
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman targets the completion within 1.5 years of the integrated poultry downstream development that is currently under way, in order to strengthen national protein self-sufficiency while also increasing exports of poultry products.
‘We have already broken ground. We will begin construction this year. Hopefully it will be finished within two years at most. If possible, one and a half years,’ Amran said after the event for the export release of poultry and its derivatives totalling 545 tonnes worth Rp18.2 billion to Japan, Singapore and Timor-Leste in Jakarta on Tuesday (3/3).
According to the minister, the poultry and egg sector has now achieved self-sufficiency and even recorded exports, so intensifying downstream development is a strategic move to increase added value.
The model being built is an integrated ecosystem ranging from feed mills, poultry breeding (day old chicks/DOC), to final-product processing to make the production chain more efficient and globally competitive.
‘We have agreed on becoming a global food basket. Carbohydrates and protein. Now the protein from poultry is already self-sufficient and export-ready,’ Amran said.
Integrated poultry downstream development is being rolled out in six regions to strengthen national protein self-sufficiency, increase added value, and maintain a stable food supply for the population in a sustainable manner.
This strategic step was marked by the Groundbreaking of Phase I of the Integrated Poultry Downstream Development at six sites led by Danantara, centred in Malang, East Java.
