Jakarta – Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman has affirmed that Indonesia’s food security remains sound amidst global crises stemming from conflicts between the United States and Israel with Iran. Amran reported that rice stocks currently stand at 4 million tonnes and are expected to increase to 5 million tonnes by April 2026.

“The stocks of 11 strategic commodities are in good condition, indeed very good condition, particularly rice. We report to you, Mr President, that rice stocks today have reached 4 million tonnes and are likely to reach 5 million tonnes next month,” Amran stated at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026).

According to Amran, these stock levels are considerably high. With current rice stocks, Indonesia’s food sufficiency can extend to 324 days.

“This is the highest level of our reserves. This is sufficient for 324 days,” he affirmed.

“It will suffice through the end of the year for rice,” he added.

On this occasion, Amran explained that rice stocks could reach 5.2 million tonnes by April 2026. He also revealed that if Indonesia’s crude palm oil (CPO) exports rise to 6 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, he reported that agricultural sector gross domestic product (GDP) growth has reached its highest level in 25 years at 5.74 per cent. Additionally, the Farmers’ Terms of Trade (NTP) has reached its highest level in 33 years. This has been attributed to President Prabowo Subianto’s policies, which raised the rice and unhusked rice procurement price whilst reducing fertiliser prices by 20 per cent without burdening state finances.

“That is all, Mr President, everything is secure in the food sector,” he concluded.
