Ampera Bekasi Level Crossing Now Equipped with Gates and Guarded by Transport Department Following Train Accidents
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — The Ampera level crossing in Duren Jaya Ward, East Bekasi Subdistrict, Bekasi City, is beginning to be improved following the accident between a Green SM taxi and the Cikarang–Jakarta KRL, as well as the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the Jakarta–Cikarang KRL on Monday night (27/4/2026).
Based on observations by Kompas.com at the location on Thursday (30/4/2026), several changes are starting to appear at the crossing point that has been operational since the 1980s.
Now, temporary iron crossing gates have been installed on both sides of the tracks, which previously only used simple bamboo gates.
Several personnel from the Transportation Department have also been stationed at the location to help regulate the heavy traffic flow, while increasing safety aspects at this vulnerable point.
Residents’ activities at the Ampera crossing continue as usual.
Traffic of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles is still seen to be busy passing through, with supervision that is now stricter than before.
Haidar (30), one of the crossing guards, said the route is guarded 24 hours a day due to the high vehicle activity.
“This crossing is usually guarded 24 hours. Because the mobility is indeed high every day. The route is busy, so it’s active all the time,” said Haidar when met at the location on Thursday.
“In my opinion, it’s actually less safe, because the vehicle circulation is high, but the gates are narrow. Previously, the road was wide, comfortable. Even with bamboo, it was safe,” he said.
He also revealed that the crossing has long not used permanent gates, even though it has been operational for decades.
As a guard who has worked for nearly eight years, Haidar hopes the crossing is not completely closed.
In addition to being an important access for residents, the location also serves as a source of income for him and other guards.
“Our livelihood is here. Or perhaps KAI could involve us to guard the train gates,” he said.
